ResourceAfrica (RA) a member of IUCN is a not-for-profit organisation that has a long standing relationship with various government and private institutions across the country over the years. The organization for over a decade now has lobbied for funding, developed, designed and facilitated the implementation of programmes and projects funded by FFI, The World Bank, WWF, IUCN and currently the People and Parks Programme funded by The National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund just to mention but a few.

RA works with various partners to encourage and deliver new models of sustainable development on community mobilization and participation. Uppermost are the values of transparency, equity and respect for local people, their needs and customs. All the above resonate with Resource Africa’s vision: ‘A sustained improvement in the quality of life of marginalised communities in Africa’

The ResourceAfrica Support to People and Parks Programme (RASPAP), a three year National Lotteries funded programme is fundamentally aimed at providing a holistic approach to nature conservation and poverty alleviation through the sustainable use of natural resources and the improvement of the livelihoods of the rural poor living around South Africa’s Parks and Nature Reserves.

Since commencement of the programme in 2010 RASPAP has made significant progress in all its different focus areas. Of the 30 targeted Protected Areas (PAs)across the country, 14 have been visited and include the following; Loskop Dam Nature Reserve, Madikwe Game Reserve, Pilanesburg Nature Reserve, Highveld Nature Reserve, Addo Elephant Park, Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Nature Reserve, Tembe Elephant Park, Maria Moroka Nature Reserve, Golden Gate Nature Reserve, Ndumo Nature reserve, Driftsands, Nwanedi Nature Reserve and Mapungubwe National Park.

In the process, we have achieved the following:

Created an income for 14 young Theatre Outreach Program members from different provinces; Auditioned 680 unemployed youth; 173 of those youth were trained on theatre performance, principles of people and parks and Mus’town Theatre is one of the groups that has benefited in this project.

All thank to Made in Musina Arts Network for calling Artists in the audition.
